Our Children at LPPC

Christmas 2008
There are many opportunities for the children at LPPC to come together as a faith family.  We value the opportunity to help guide our children as they discover who God is and remind them of how much they are loved.

Please watch this page for information and photos from recent events held for our Children and Youth and to find out what exciting activities are planned in the months ahead!

Nursery Services

Nursery CaregiversOur nursery is available for smaller children up to age 5 during the 10:30 am Worship Service (there is no childcare service during the 8:15 Service) and during the 9:15 am Summer Worship Service.  From September until May, caregivers are available from 10:15 until 12:00 noon to care for your child in our fun-filled nursery.  Please check the church calendar for special events when the nursery might be closed or call the church office at 867-5718

Halloween 2008Sunday School

Our Christian Education classes are open to all kids and youth from age 6 and older from September through May during the 10:30 am Worship Service.  We ask all families to gather in the sanctuary at the beginning of service.  After the Gathering of the Youth Sermon, the kids and youth will be escorted to our classrooms.

When our service schedule changes from two service to one service during the summer, we take a summer break from Sunday School and enjoy the summer church activities with our whole church family.

We are always looking for motivated members of the church and community who would like to help teach Sunday School!  If your heart is moved to help teach our children and youth about the love of God in their lives, please contact Lauren S. through the church office at 867-5718.

MDO"Mother's Day Out" Childcare Co-op

Since 1989, LPPC has sponsored a daycare co-op program called "Mother's Day Out" or MDO for the families of our communities.  The non-denominational, outreach program operates from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, Monday - Friday, for $15/hour.

Children age 18 months to Pre-K can come one day a week or 5 days a week, as space permits, and all members of the community (church families and non-church affiliated) are welcome.  Please contact Debbie S. at 867-5718 or click here for more information.

Update April 2010

"We have had a successful year with our young people.  We have been using curriculum on what it means to follow Jesus. We will start a new study called “Talking with God – Teaching Children to Pray,” in the next few weeks. We will be giving Bibles to our upper elementary students on a Sunday in May during worship. We will also recognize our graduates, Jackson D. and Zach M.

We are planning a Vacation Bible School (VBS) for a weekend in June this year. Geri E. will be handing out surveys the next few Sundays to get your input on when would be the best time.  We really need to get a lot of children involved for VBS to be a success and we are asking for your input!"

Christmas Pageant: December 13, 2009

Thank you to Nancy W. for once again directing one a fantastic Christmas Pageant last Sunday, December 13, 2009!  Thank you to Annabella M. with her outstanding narration and Nancy U. for the beautiful musical accompaniment for the children.  And congratulations to all the children who participated in the production  - even our littlest members who remembered their lines!  You looked great in your animal costumes and reminded us all of the reason for the season!

Please enjoy this photo slideshow of the event (thanks to everyone that sent in their photos)!

Corn Maze Oct 09Corn Maze in October 2009

Thanks to all who joined us at the Skinner's place in Corrales October 25th.   We had some beautiful fall weather to walk to the Wagner Farms Corn Maze and get lost in the maze of corn rows, ride the hayrides, find some great looking pumpkins, and then enjoy some great pizza socializing back at their house.

Thanks to all the Skinner's for hosting and can't wait to do it again next year!

Dance performance during service

Dana D. performed for us during Worship Service in October.  It was a wonderful dance and we sure appreciate her sharing her many talents with us!  Thank you, Dana!

Learning the Ten Commandments

This Fall, Pastor Elizabeth and Jennifer C. used finger play to help our children learn about the Ten Commandments during service and Sunday School:

  1. ONE finger (pointer): We have ONE God
  2. TWO fingers (V sign): TWO is too many. One of your gods (money, security, popularity) may be an idol. Trust only in one God!
  3. THREE fingers (like a W) for "words": The third commandment tell us God wants us to use his name in loving, caring ways; not in swearing or in anger or for justifying our actions.
  4. FOUR fingers up, fold your thumb under to rest: reminding us to take a rest from work or stress, to be at peace with self and others, to worship
  5. FIVE fingers up (palm facing forward, as if taking a pledge): The fifth commandment asks that we honor our parents with love and obedience
  6. SIX fingers (index finger on one hand makes a gun pointing at five extended fingers of other hand): God’s sixth commandment teaches us not to do anything that would hurt another person
  7. SEVEN fingers (one hand flat for the floor of the church, two fingers of other hand standing upright make 2 people taking vows): We are reminded to keep the marriage promises we make
  8. EIGHT fingers up (four on each hand, spread to make prison bars): reminding us not to steal
  9. NINE fingers up (hide one thumb to represent secretly “talking behind the back” of other people): God does not want us to bear false witness, to gossip or criticize others without talking directly to them
  10. TEN fingers (hold both hands out, palms up, wiggling fingers acquisitively): God wants us to give up the “gimmies” and our yearning for what our neighbor has
