Youth Education

Christian Education for Children and Youth begins in early September during the 10:30am service (after the children’s message, pictured on left).

The Christian Education for Youth Committee has designed a marvelous new program for our young people, using music, drama, and experiential learning. These activities are being led by a variety of talented members of our congregation. Parents, bring your children to church!

Continuing their study of seasons of the church year, during April the children and youth of our church are exploring the season of Easter through a variety of activities and creative learning experiences. PARENTS—please bring your children on Sunday mornings so they won’t miss these important stories and traditions of their faith heritage.

    2008 Vacation Bible School - August 1st & 2nd

Vacation Bible School is almost here!  There will still be plenty of Bible study, music, crafts, and fun for children ages 5-10. Preschoolers may attend from 9:00 to 11:00am Fri. and on Sat 9:00am until the picnic.  Youth, ages 12 and up are needed as helpers. We are going to be collecting stuffed animals for children affected by domestic violence and we will be collecting food for our own food bank!

In an effort to accommodate busy families and work schedules, this year it is going to be held all day on Friday, August 1st, (9am to 5pm) and on Saturday, from 9am to noon, followed by an all-church picnic that the whole congregation is invited to attend. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, please bring a potluck dish to share.

The young adult helpers will have a lock-in sleep over Friday night. We need a few extra volunteers to stay overnight with our young people at the church on August 1st . Please see Anna H or Nancy W for details.

We will be talking about two of our most precious commodities—water and each other! This year's theme is Water for All God's Children and will incorporate four stories from the Bible that revolve around water with crafts, music, snacks and games to round out the day. As water will be the theme for sermons on Sundays during July, what better way to end the month than with a VBS program that covers the same topic—a topic that's near & dear to our hearts here in the desert!

This is a great opportunity to introduce your kids to some of the VBS—Very Best Stories—the Bible has to offer.   More detailed  information will be posted soon.

With VBS rapidly approaching we are looking for donations to offset the expense of serving lunch and an afternoon snack. The following items are needed for lunch and snacks:

    • Juice

    • Fresh fruit

    • Vegetables

    • Buns (hot-dog & hamburger)

    • Chips

    • Crackers

    • Popcorn

    • Cookies

    • Paper plates

    • Cups (small)

Any donations to offset the expense of Vacation Bible School are always appreciated. Donations of snacks, paper products, and/or monetary donations are helpful.  You can bring your donations during the week and leave it in the kitchen, clearly marked for "VBS." The church is open M, W-F from  9:00am to 1:00pm.  If you are interested in helping with vacation Bible School you can check the church bulletin board for areas that need volunteers or contact Anna H or Pastor Elizabeth at 867-5718.     Thank you so very much for your donation it is greatly appreciated!

    VBS Registration

    • Begins July 4th and will continue through the morning of August 1st.

    • Registration fee—we are asking that children bring in various foods for the food bank in place of the registration fee.

    • Preschool children are asked to bring in a gently used stuffed animal that will be used in their lessons and then given to a needy child.

    • VBS Water Olympics. A big thank you to Jerri F who has graciously offered to organize the grand finale Water Olympics for VBS.

Many thanks to the Mother's Day Out parents who will be assisting with preschoolers during VBS.

DON'T FORGET: ANY CHILD ATTENDING VBS IS ASKED TO BRING A CANNED GOOD/S (IF POSSIBLE) FOR THE CASA ROSA FOOD BANK IN LIEU OF A REGISTRATION FEE.

New Recycling Program Benefits Youth and Earth!

LPPC continues its green efforts to help protect our environment by recycling CELL PHONES and INK JET CARTRIDGES. All proceeds go to our youth group for church-sponsored events and activities—thanks to Phoneraiser, an innovative fund-raising recycler. Please place your used cell phones and ink jet cartridges in the box located in the Fellowship Hall. Contact Vicki D for any questions or go to the Phoneraiser website.

    Pizza with the Pastor

For our young adults (high school and college age) Sunday, April 6, 2008 from 4:00pm till 6:00pm. What would make church exciting for you again? How do you want to come together as a community? What events would be meaningful or just fun for all of you and your friends?  Join Pastor Elizabeth and your friends for pizza in the teen room and let her know what you would like to see at LPPC.

Calling All Youth to Ecumenical Seder—April 9, 2008

Congregation Albert, the closest Jewish Synagogue (in Albuquerque) has invited us to join their members in a Passover “Dessert” Seder on Wednesday, April 9, at 7:00 pm.

Let’s take advantage of this unusual opportunity to explore the common roots between Christians and Jews—which are particularly evident during Easter and Passover—as we share in fellowship with our Jewish neighbor.

Ten spots are available, so sign up as soon as possible. Contact Jerri F. by March 25th.

    Youth Retreat to Ghost Ranch—February 29-March 2

Nine LPPC young people spent the first weekend in March at the Santa Fe Presbytery Annual Senior High Retreat at Ghost Ranch, led by seniors from Austin College in Texas. Our kids are meeting young people from all over northern New Mexico, sharing in study, worship, outdoor adventure, and faith-building.

SHOW AN INTEREST in our youth—ask them about their retreat experiences and share high points of your own! Participants will be making a presentation to the congregation after their return. Don’t miss it!

HEIFER Mission Project—Joy to the World!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Heifer Project during December, 2007. Under the able leadership of Austin M, our young people raised enough money in their mission effort to purchase a water buffalo and training for a family who will use it as a major stepping stone to self-sufficiency, while being nourished by its protein-rich milk. Congratulations!

Meanwhile, our kids have learned important lessons about poverty in the world and experienced the joy of giving their time and energy to help restore the balance of justice and bring a small measure of true Joy to the World.
