Comfort and Joy Prayer Shawl Circle
The Comfort & Joy Circle (C & J) members meet prayerfully monthly to knit
shawls for individuals who have personal spiritual needs because of
bereavement, health needs, or when they are burdened or grieved as
caregivers of loved ones with serious health concerns.
Since a small group of LPPC members and friends got together to kit and crochet, over 100 articles have been created and given to those in need of comfort. Because the requests continue to match, and at times exceed, availability, C & J is seeking more knitters, crocheters and weavers. Meetings are brief, on alternate months, and all interested persons are welcome to attend, with instruction available for anyone who would like to learn to knit. Donations of yarn and monetary support are appreciated. Requests for shawls may be made through Pastor Elizabeth or the Deacons.
For more information, you can contact Eda W. through the church office at 867-5718.
Update June 2010
Upcoming Meetings:
Please join us at one of the 2 dates below to bring everyone up to date on recent activities and collect and bless any completed items:
- Saturday, June 12 at 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
- Monday, June 14 at 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
While we do have a supply of shawls on hand, the recent high demand (15 gifts made in May) has reduced the "inventory." I realize no one wants to knit or crochet during this heat, but the requests continue to come in despite the weather. So, if you have any completed items, they are most welcome. Thank you all for your generosity, beautiful work, and continued support - Eda
News for the Needles - May
"In May 2007, six members of LPPC organized the Comfort & Joy Prayer Shawl Circle (C&J) to extend LPPC s outreach and ministry to members, friends and relatives of the congregation and the surrounding community by presenting hand made comfort gifts of shawls, lap robes, afghans, and baby blankets to individuals and families experiencing the illness or death of a loved one, loneliness, confinement, or stress of care-giving, or the joy of significant life changing events.
In 2010, there are approximately 30 individuals who have contributed their time, talent and resources to support this touching ministry by knitting, crocheting and weaving more than 160 shawls or other items. In addition, 30 baby blankets have been made to replenish the depleted supplies of baby kits for the Church World Services disaster relief organization. C&J continues to give out an average of one item per week through the LPPC Deacons and Pastor.
The C&J knitters and crocheters work independently with their own supplies, which are occasionally supplemented by donations. The group generally meets every two to three months to share information, gather completed items and to offer thanks and prayers of blessing for the shawls and their recipients. Participation of any sort is welcome and open to all. Knitting instruction is also provided to interested persons. Donations of appropriate hand made items, yarns and financial assistance are welcome.
