Grounds

The Grounds Committee keeps the landscaping and exterior grounds looking great. They keep the snow off the paths, and the trees trimmed. In 2007 the committee spent 155 hours on 6 scheduled work days taking care of snow removal, leaning our part of the Placitas acequia for the upcoming season; cutting down and removing two dead trees; tree trimming around parking lot and church; weed control, spraying, trimming, pulling, and hoeing; and performing bucket and blade work on the tractor.

217 hours on 15 scheduled days were spent on digging drainage ditches from canales; removing weed roots and rocks; laying 10 ton of cobblestone; spreading 22 tons of gravel;   installing spot lights on the cross; installing lights on the street sign;  planting shrubs under the cross; and we  redid the ork will be completed in spring.

A group of specially trained stewards, under the supervision of the Grounds Committee chair, take care of the our lovely Memorial Garden.

WE’RE SPRUCING UP THE PLACE

Fall/Winter 2007

Thanks for the New Landscaping!

During November, Max E and a hard-working crew have been transforming the north side of our property into a beautiful stone and tree studded landscape. Max filed this report on the process:

"We spent a lot of time and hard work digging out trenches to drain the water from the canales, leveling the dirt, and digging out weed roots and rocks.

We have placed, one-by-one, 8 tons of cobblestone in the drainage ditches and spread 20 tons of 7/8 inch pueblo rose gravel. We have 12 tons to go, plus approximately 3 tons more of cobblestone to outline the gravel. The drip system has been re-done and will have to be adjusted next spring. The lights on the cross should be completed shortly and the marquis will have lights.

As of November 30th, we have put in 160 hours and probably have another 100 to complete what we have started, weather permitting!

Many thanks to the folks who did the back-breaking and knee-wrenching work: Max E, Bill S, Ron D, Keith L, Bill L, Chas S, and Leo W."

Funds for the landscaping project have come from memorial gifts in honor of faithful LPPC supporter, Jim Masterson. Wouldn’t he be pleased with this lovely finale to our building expansion!
