The Chancel Choir
The
Chancel Choir sings at the 10:30am service every Sunday from September
to May and are led
by Kent Wall since May 2006. They rehearse every Thursday night at
7pm and before each service on Sunday morning. They are accompanied on
the piano by Jui-Ling Hsu, a UNM fine arts music student. Periodically
during the year, church members who are musically talented, join in or
fill in on both the piano and organ. In addition to
singing at most 10:30am Sunday services, the choir performs special programs including
the Ellingboe Requiem Mass, The Seven Last Words of Christ, The Messiah,
Vivaldi's Gloria,
Fauré's Requiem, and Navidad
Nuestra Some of these performances are
available on CD. Call for more information.

Summer Fellowship and Music—We
need your help this summer! When we go to one service doesn’t mean
that our needs for great fellowship and great music are any less. We
have very few people signed up to host fellowship hour or to provide
music this summer. Please see the sign-up sheets in the Fellowship Hall
and help make this summer a great one at LPPC.

In Recognition of the Choir
Creating God, whose voice sang the world into being,
Who brought your people from bondage to the strains of Miriam’s song,
Whose prophets boldly sang the words of the Spirit in the face of power,
We thank you for creating, in this place, the Spirit’s song.
Compassionate God, who entered our world to the song of the angels,
Who chanted in the synagogue, amazing the teachers with your wisdom,
Who sang on that last night, a hymn with your disciples,
We praise you that in the ups and downs of life, your song is our
example.
Breath of God, who fell in the sound of wind upon the Church,
Who composes for each of us a gift to offer to the world,
Who calls us forward toward the oneness of a choir of saints,
We worship you as your music flows through our lives in love.
And now, Singing God, especially for this group,
Who gather faithfully to strengthen and share the gift of song,
Who lift our spirits weekly with anthems of praise,
We ask your blessing upon this choir as they scatter for a season. Amen.

Lenten CANTATA—March 9, 10:30am
The Lenten Choir Cantata this
year features our talented and dedicated LPPC choir, joined by baritone
soloist Bradley Ellingboe (the New Mexico composer who wrote last year’s
Christmas cantata). They are offering for our worship and inspiration
Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Five Mystical Songs. Sneak previews of the
songs have been wonderful! Bring your neighbors! Brad, is the Director of Choral Activities at the
University of New Mexico, he directs the choir at St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Albuquerque, he is a widely published composer of choral
music, and he sings all over the country. Our choir director Kent, had
the good fortune of singing under Brad’s direction at St. Paul for
nearly a decade.
Thanks to all members of the
choir, and to director Kent Wall for sharing your gifts of music with us
throughout the year.

A
letter from our Choir Director, December 16, 2007:
Dear
Las Placitas Presbyterian Church,
I
am very excited to be a part of Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria this Sunday,
and I would like to thank certain people for making this possible. First
of all, I must express my gratitude to our wonderful choir. Each member
deserves personal recognition for his or her commitment to this ensemble
and to this special work. I would also like to thank Jui-Ling Hsu, our
exceptional accompanist, for her dedication and her wonderful
musicianship. My wife, Jacqueline Zander-Wall, is not only giving her
tune and talents to this undertaking, but she also supports my efforts
here at Placitas throughout the year; she is a wonderful singer and a
great blessing to me. Thank you. Jacque. Today we are graced with the
presence of Leslie Umphrey, one of the finest singers in this region. If
you see her after the service, please thank her for sharing her
wonderful gift with us. My expression of gratitude to Deb A-R is long
overdue. She manages the music files here at the church, which is a
great help both to the choir and to me. Thanks, Deb. I must also express
my thanks to Ken Cuthbertson for his unwavering support for our music
program and for his commitment to this congregation. My final words of
thanks go out to the congregation here at Las Placitas. I am always
deeply touched by your support for the choir and by your words of
encouragement.
Sincerely,
Kent
Wall
On Palm Sunday, April
1, 2007 the Ellingboe Requiem Mass was sung. It was an all musical worship.
Bradley Ellingboe is a
UNM professor and director of the University chorus. Some parts of the Requiem
are in Latin, some are Biblical texts in English, and some feature
the poetry of George Herbert and John Donne. It’s quite an intriguing
and beautiful piece of music that few people have heard.

Message from the Choir Director
To all Current and Prospective Choir Members,
The choir’s musical contributions to the services from September through
June are a very important part of worship here at LPPC, and we are truly
blessed to be able to give in this way. I count it both an honor and a
blessing to serve the choir and congregation in joyfully praising God in
worship each week.
I hope you will consider joining us this year—even
if you’ve never sung in a choir before.
Kent Wall

The Hispano Religious Singers consists of several folks who sing only in Spanish about
every few months. Beside
singing, Willie plays the guitar. Their ministry has
been a long one in the history of our church. This
