RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ELDERS
and DEACONS
The late fall is the time to make your recommendations for next
years Elders and Deacons. Please
submit your recommendations to the church office before the yearly
meeting of the Nominating Committee. This committee is made up of
three session members and two duly elected members of the congregation.
Each year we need Elders and Deacons to replace those who have served
their three year term and are rotating off.
The following guidelines for these nominations are from the
Presbyterian Church U.S.A Book of Order.
“Elders
should be persons of faith, dedication and good judgment. Their manner
of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within
the church and in the world. It is the duty of elders to strengthen and
nurture the faith and life of the congregation committed to their
charge. They should encourage people in the worship of God, equip and
renew persons for their tasks with the church and for mission in the
world. Elders should comfort and care for people. They should cultivate
their ability to teach the Bible. ”
Deacons. "The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy,
witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Persons of
spiritual character, honest repute, of exemplary lives, brotherly and
sisterly love, warm sympathies and sound judgment should be chosen for
this office.”
