The Session is the elected governing body of LPPC and is composed of representatives from the congregation, called Elders, who are charged with the spiritual care and direction of the programmatic and financial operation of the church.
The Session consists of 8 Elders who are elected by the congregation for staggered three-year terms. With the Pastor as moderator, these Elders exercise leadership, government and discipline; encourage the congregation in the worship and service of God; renew people for their tasks within the church and for their mission in the world. They individually and jointly strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation.
Elders also provide opportunities for evangelism; receive members into the church; lead the congregation in participation in the mission of the whole church in the world; provide for the worship of the people of God; provide for the growth of its members and for their equipment for ministry; develop and supervise the educational program of the church; establish and manage the annual budget; provide for the administration of church programs; manage church property, including memorial gifts, and maintain relations with higher governing bodies of the church.

DeaconsThe Board of Deacons is a group of seven congregational members who have been elected by the congregation to assist the Pastor in supporting the spiritual needs of members and to administer to the needy. They have a moderator who is elected by the board. Their work includes coordinating the weekly prayer calendar, mailing “get well” and sympathy cards, visiting shut-ins, preparing meals for bereaved families after a funeral and providing food and clothing for needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas time.
As Christmas approaches, they run the entire "Gifts for Children" program. Each month the deacons prepare the communion table for the worship services. They prepare two loaves of bread, often home baked, and supply the grape juice. They also prepare communion for special services, including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunrise, Seder Dinner, and Christmas Eve.
Update April 2010: Our Deacons have now become shepherds! At the last Deacon meeting every member and friend of the church was assigned a Deacon to be their shepherd. This Deacon will call every family about once a quarter just to see how everyone is doing and to see if there are any concerns that the Deacons or the pastor might address. This will be a great way for our congregation to be more in touch with each other.
