Like
several Presbyterian congregations scattered through the villages of northern
New Mexico, Las Placitas Presbyterian Church was founded as an Hispanic mission
in the late 19th century. Over the last generation a number of these churches,
including LPPC, have developed into gathering places reflecting the evolving
diversity of our communities.
Las Placitas congregation today includes
descendants of the original village families, free-spirited folks who came to
the mountain in the late 60s and early 70s, and recent transplants into the
various Placitas subdivisions—as well as near neighbors from Bernalillo, Algodones, Rio Rancho, and Albuquerque. Someone recently remarked that the
homogeneity of Las Placitas church is found in our embrace of our
non-homogeneity.
Our mission statement affirms LPPC is an inclusive
community . . . welcoming and supporting all people as they explore their
personal life paths. ALL are welcome to come share the journey with us.
