Dignity Mission

Furthering LPPC’s mission to extend God’s love and promise through service and outreach, church members established the “Dignity Mission” in 2019 to ease the suffering and affirm the dignity of those seeking asylum in the United States. Since the beginning the members of the church and local community have generously supported this effort. The mission has grown exponentially since then and has expanded to aiding as many of the homeless migrants as we can reach along the US-Mexico border.


We funnel our donations of Dignity Kits (a collection of essential toiletry items in a Ziploc bag), food, clothing, toys, and other essential items through Dr. Eva Moya, a professor at the University of Texas at El Paso. She works with a large network to ensure that our donations quickly reach people in need. Her family, friends, colleagues and students, and a group of Dominican nuns deliver our donations directly to asylum seekers and other migrants in and near Ciudad Juárez, both in shelters and outside the formal shelter network.

Dr. Eva Moya spoke about humanitarian efforts at the U.S. Mexico border to help families and children seeking asylum in the United States. She focused on the Dignity Mission, a program which is sending thousands of pounds of food, clothing, toiletries and other basic supplies to asylum seekers who await processing at the border in shelters in cities like Juarez, Mexico. These shelters often lack basic supplies to meet the needs of so many people trying to escape desperate conditions in Honduras, Guatemala and other parts of Latin America, but who nonetheless seek to enter the United States through legal means.


Professor Moya was able to inform all those who attended this presentation about how well these efforts are working, why she considers them so critical, and how others can get involved in these efforts.

How to help

During 2022 volunteers in Placitas and Los Alamos produced over 11,000 Dignity Kits, Family Kits, and Children’s Kits at a cost of nearly $50,000. Volunteers in several communities in New Mexico and Virginia created and stuffed 880 Christmas stockings and bags for the children at the border. Additionally, individual supporters donated over $40,000 worth of merchandise in 2022, including critically needed items delivered directly to Dr. Moya in El Paso and to Las Placitas Presbyterian Church (LPPC). And that’s not all!  Businesses and non-profit organizations donated tons of goods, including food, clothing, blankets and more, estimated at a value in excess of $90,000. This is all incredible and we cannot thank you enough for your continued support.

Monetary donations are always welcome. Every penny goes directly to purchasing what is needed to meet the basic needs of our brothers and sisters fleeing their homes and seeking safety in our country. Most of the funds are used to make bulk purchases of toiletries placed in the Dignity Kits. Some money also covers the cost to rent and fuel a 15’ truck, which makes the 300-mile trip to El Paso every six weeks carrying Dignity Kits, food, and other essentials for distribution to the asylum seekers. Any remaining funds are used to purchase what is most critically needed at the time.

You can provide monetary support in one of two ways: 

1.  BY CHECK: to Las Placitas Presbyterian Church with Dignity Mission noted in the memo line and mailed to Las Placitas Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 768, Placitas, NM 87043. 

2.  GIVE ONLINE: Click on "More" in the top right-hand corner of the top menu, click on "GIVE" on the drop-down menu, click on "CLICK HERE TO GIVE", click on the box next to Dignity Mission on the Donation page, enter an amount, frequency and start date, and click on "Continue."  Complete the form and submit.
