Deacons

Mission/Description: The Deacons are elected by the congregation to serve three-year terms, and ordained to the ministry of compassion, witness, and service (as defined in the Book of Order). Deacons are called on to share the love of Christ through service to those in need--the sick, the poor, the homebound, the grieving, the oppressed, the burdened. Deacons carry out their ministry by way of a gentle hug, a phone call or visit, a greeting card, or a casserole.

Activities and Accomplishments:

Some of the services we provide include making monthly phone calls to church members, providing meals to members who are recently home from the hospital, or are homebound. We visit church members and community members in the hospital. We organize receptions for funerals or memorial services and weddings: open the church, set up tables, accept food for the reception, and clean up and close the church. We mail cards for many occasions: birthday, anniversary, sympathy, get well, thinking of you, and congratulations. We also set up Communion monthly (purchase bread and grape juice), and serve communion to the homebound.
